Volatile Components from Aerial parts of Centaurea diffusa and C. micrantha ssp. melanosticta and their biocidal activity on microorganisms affecting…

2018

The chemical composition of the essential oils from aerial parts of two taxa of Centaurea belonging to subgenus Acrolophus, Centaurea diffusa Lam. and C. micrantha Hoff. ssp. melanosticta (Lange) Dostàl, respectively collected in Croatia and Spain, were evaluated by GC and GC-MS. The main components of C. diffusa were hexadecanoic acid (31.1%), (Z,Z)-9,12-octadecadienoic acid (10.7%) and damascenone isomers (6.4%), whereas hexahydrofarnesyl acetone (27.8%), hexadecanoic acid (8.3%) and caryophyllene oxide (6.4%) were the most abundant components of C. micrantha ssp. melanosticta. The oils showed good antibacterial and antifungal activities against some microorganisms that infest historical …

Chemical composition of the essential oils of Centaurea tomentella Hand.-Mazz. and C. haussknechtii Boiss. (Asteraceae) collected wild in Turkey and …

2018

In the present study the chemical composition of the essential oils from aerial parts of Centaurea tomentella Hand.-Mazz. and C. haussknechtii Boiss. collected in Turkey was evaluated by GC and GC-MS. The main components of C. tomentella L. were hexadecanoic acid (19.7%), caryophyllene oxide (6.6%) and spathulenol (4.8%) whereas C. haussknechtii was rich in hexadecanoic acid (26.2%), (Z,Z)-9,12-octadecadienoic acid (19.3%), heptacosane (5.3%) and nonacosane (5.1%). Antibacterial and antifungal activities against some microorganisms infesting historical art craft, were also determined.

Volatile components of Centaurea calcitrapa L. and Centaurea sphaerocephala L. ssp. sphaerocephala, two Asteraceae growing wild in Sicily

2006

The volatile components of the flowerheads of Centaurea calcitrapa L. (C.c.) and Centaurea sphaerocephala L. ssp. sphaerocephala (C.s.) were obtained by hydrodistillation and identified by GC and GC–MS. Altogether 96 components were identified, 66 in C. calcitrapa and 68 in C. spaerocephala, mostly fatty acids (32.8%, C.c. and 44.2%, C.s.) and hydrocarbons (32.3%, C.c. and 15.9%, C.s.). 9,12-Octadecadienoic acid (15.8%, C.c.) and hexadecanoic acid (30.7%, C.s.) were the most abundant fatty acids; tricosane (8.0%, C.c.) and heptacosane (4.9%, C.s.) were the main hydrocarbons. Sesquiterpenes were also present as hydrocarbons (10.1% for 14 components in C.c. and 9.2% for 13 components in C.s.)…
